Can you create two completely different bows using the same ribbon? Absolutely! In this tutorial, Nick of Nick Seasonal Decor shows you how to create two different bows with blue-and-white gingham ribbon and the Bowdabra®.
First, Nick creates a fun, dimensional Funky Bow, followed by the classic 3,2,1 Bow. Same ribbon, same supplies—two completely different looks you can use for wreaths, swags, home décor, gifts, and more.
Supplies for Both Bows
* Large Bowdabra®
* Bowdabra® Bow Wire
* Blue-and-White Gingham Ribbon
Instructions:
First, make the funky bow. Cut a length of Bowdabra bow wire, fold it in half, and place it in the Bowdabra. It’s a good idea to tuck the ends under the Bowdabra while you are making your bow.
Now, cut a length of the gingham ribbon and place it in the Bowdabra for the tails. Dovetail the ends. To dovetail, fold the ribbon in half and cut at an angle away from the fold.
Next, fold lengths of ribbon in half with a loop on one side and two tails on the other, like an awareness ribbon. Then, place them in the Bowdabra alternating the sides of loops and tails. Make as many loops and tails as you desire.
Thread the loose wires through the loop and pull tight while the bow is still in the Bowdabra. Remove, separate the ends, and turn to the back and tie a knot. Fluff the bow and make dovetails on all the tails.
Second three-two-one bow
Place the bow wire in the Bowdabra as you did for the first bow. Then cut a length of the gingham ribbon and place it in the Bowdabra for the tails.
Now, place some ribbon in the Bowdabra and start with a twist and fold bow. Bring the ribbon across and scrunch down makng a loop. Make three loops about 3 inches on each side, folding and twisting.
Next, continue folding and twsiting making two loops about 2 inches. Finally, finish with about a 1 1/2″ button loop.
Scrunch everything down with the Bowdabra wand. Thread the wires through the loop and pull tight. Remove the bow and turn to the back, and tie a knot and a second knot.
You have two different bows created with the same materials, with very different looks!
