How to Make the Perfect Valentine Heart Hand Warmers

Hand warmers are the perfect chill chasers for cold days. These Valentine Heart Hand Warmers are reusable and environmentally friendly. They’re fun to make and only take a few minutes.Valentine Heart Hand Warmers

Here are the supplies that you’ll need:Supplies for Heart Hand Warmers

  • Fabric—cotton, fleece, or felt are good options
  • Heart Hand Warmer pattern
  • Adhesive—fabric glue or hot glue*
  • Uncooked white rice

Let’s make a pair of hand warmers:

  1. Print the Heart Hand Warmer pattern and cut out the template of your choice. There is a 4″ heart and a 5″ one.
  2. Trace the template onto your fabric, and cut out two hearts for each hand warmer. You’ll need a piece of fabric 6″ x 10″ for two hearts.Cut Two Hearts for Each Hand Warmer
  3. Stack two hearts on top of one another. Hot glue the edges together leaving an opening along one of the straight sides for filling. Work in short sections so the hot glue doesn’t set up too soon. Note: Hot glue is HOT. Adult help is necessary. However, fabric glue works just as well—you just have to let it dry thoroughly before moving on to the next step.Hot Glue Edges Together
  4. Don’t forget to leave an opening for filling the hand warmer.Leave Opening for Filling the Warmer
  5. Fill the hand warmer with rice. You might find it easier to use a funnel or spoon. I used about 1/4 cup for the 4″ heart and 1/3 cup for the 5″ heart. Take care not to overfill the heart.Fill Hand Warmer with Rice
  6. Seal the opening using your method of choice.
  7. To warm, heat in the microwave for 15 to 20 seconds. Don’t overheat the hand warmer!!

*You can also use a sewing machine to sew the hearts together.
