Learn how to make a stunning patriotic double door swag – Video DIY

Hey everyone! It’s Joette from the Bowdabra® Design Team! Today I’m showing you how to create this beautiful Patriotic Over-the-Door Double Door Swag — a creative way to decorate both the inside and outside of your home with one stunning design! Best of all, this is a no hot glue needed project, and you can use these same mechanics and customize it for any occasion. Let’s get crafting!

Supplies:

Bowdabra ribbons

  • 2.5” wide wired matching velvet ribbon of choice (5–6 yards)
  • 1.5” wide wired matching ribbon (2 yards)
  • 1.5” wide wired patriotic ribbon of choice (5–6 yards)
  • Eucalyptus picks
  • Raffia and berry picks
  • 2 five-bloom geranium bushes
  • 2 baby’s breath stems
  • Bowdabra® Bow Wire
  • Large Bowdabra®

double door swag

Instructions:

First, cut a long length of Bowdabra bow wire.  Then, fold it in half and insert it into the Bowdabra.  You will have a loop on one side and two loose wires on the other side.  This will serve as your slipknot. Tuck the ends under to stay out of the way while you are making your swag.

Next, place some eucalyptus and a raffia pick right into the Bowdabra. Then, fold open a geranium bush and place three blooms on one side and two on the other.

Usine about a yard of ribbon, find the center of a 2 1/2″ wide velvet ribbon and place into the Bowdabra. Bring one side across to make a loop, and repeat with the other side for a shoelace bow. Repeat this step with a 1 1/2″ wide ribbon. Repeat a third time with a 1 1/2″ wide patritoic ribbon.

Now, add a sprig of baby’s breath. Finish with a button loop. Place a piece of ribbon in the Bowdabra leaving a tail, then create a small loop and bringing the other tail end across.

Scrunch everything down with the Bowdabra wand.  Then, insert the loose wires through the loop and pull tight while the bow is still in the Bowdabra. Then, remove the bow from the Bowdabra, separate the ends, turn to the back and tie a knot. Fluff and shape everything.

Make the second swag:

Make another swag in the same way as the first one.

Next, cut a long length of the 2 1/2″ wide patriotic ribbon that will fit over your door and down the other side.

Use the excess wire from each swag to tie them onto the ribbon leaving a small length at the bottom. Now you can hang your double door swag and showcase them on both sides of your door!!

If one or both swags leans you can use some extra bow wire to tie it tighter. Love this project? You will find hundreds like these when you subscribe to our YouTube channel.
