Make the Perfect Whimsical Carrot Door Hanger for Spring and Easter

Materials Needed:

  • Two orange felt sheets (approx. 9″ x 12″)
  • Five green pipe cleaners
  • Fiber fill stuffing
  • Sewing machine, hot glue gun, or fabric glue
  • Scissors
  • ⅜” and ½” wide ribbon
  • Carrot Pattern
  • Mini Bowdabra 
  • Bowdabra bow wire

Let’s make the Carrot Door Hanger:

  1. Cut and Shape the Carrot
  • Download and print the Carrot Template. Cut out each pattern piece and join on the indicated line.
  • Lay the orange felt sheets on top of one another. Pin the carrot pattern to the felt sheets. Cut out the carrot.Pin Pattern to Felt and Cut Carrot
  • Join the carrot edges, leaving the top open. You can use a sewing machine, hand-stitching, hot glue, or fabric glue. If you’re using glue, let it dry completely before moving to the next steps.Sew or Hot Glue Edges of Carrot
  1. Stuff the Carrot
  • Fill the carrot with fiber fill until plump but not overstuffed.Stuff Carrot with Fiber Fill
  • Leave ¾” to 1” at the top unfilled.
  1. Make the Pipe Cleaner Carrot Tops
  • Cut the pipe cleaners in half, and bundle them together. To secure the bundle, fold a 12” to 15” length of bow wire in half. Lay the leaf bundle on top of the bow wire, and pass the ends through the loop. Pull up tightly and tie a knot on the reverse side of the bundle. Make Bundle of Pipe Cleaners and Secure with Bow Wire
  1. Join the Carrot and the Leafy Top
  • Place the bundled end of the carrot leaves into the open top of the carrot. Insert Pipe Cleaner Bundle into Top of Carrot
  • Gather the carrot top and secure with bow wire using the same method as securing the pipe cleaner bundle. Gather Carrot Top and Secure with Bow Wire
  1. Make the Bow with the Mini Bowdabra
  • Fold an 18” length of bow wire in half and place in the Mini Bowdabra.Bow Wire in Mini Bowdabra
  • Add a 12” length of ribbon for the bow’s tails. Add Ribbon Tie to Mini Bowdabra
  • Now, use a 4¾ foot length of ribbon to make loops in the Mini Bowdabra.Make Loops for Bow in Mini Bowdabra
  • Compress the ribbon in the Mini Bowdabra with the wand.Compress Ribbon with Wand
  • With the ribbon still in the Bowdabra, pass the wire ends through the loop and pull up tightly.Pass Wire Ends through Loop
  • Bring the ends to the back of the bow, and tie a secure knot. Leave the wire end uncut.
  • Fluff the bow.

  • Assemble and Hang

  • Tie a 15” length of ribbon around the top of the carrot.Tie 15 inch Ribbon Around Top of Carrot
  • Attach the bow using the bow wire ends to secure it in place, making knots on the reverse side of the carrot.carrot door hanger
  • The ends of the bow wire can be tied together to form a loop for hanging.
