Hi there! I’m Joette from the Bowdabra Design Team, and today I’ll show you how to make a charming DIY Patriotic Mini Lantern Swag, perfect for summer decor. This easy project uses minimal supplies and is a fun way to celebrate the season. Let’s get started!
• Lantern
• 2 ficus leaves stems
• 1.5- 2 yds of 2.5” wide wired burlap ribbon
• 1.5- 2 yds of 2.5” wide wired Patriotic ribbon
• Bowdabra
• Bowdabra Bow Wire
First, cut a piece of Bowdabra bow wire. Then, fold it in half and insert it into the Bowdabra. You will have a loop on one side and two loose wires on the other side. This will serve as your slipknot. Tuck the ends under to stay out of the way while you are making your bow.
Next, dovetail two pieces of ribbon, patriotic and burlap for the tails. To dovetail, fold the ribbon in half and cut at an angle away from the fold. Find the center and scrunch into the Bowdabra.
Find the center of a piece of the patriotic ribbon and scrunch it down into the Bowdabra. Now bring one side across and scrunch down, then bring the other side across and scrunch down.
Now, lay in some greenery. Then using a length of burlap ribbon place in the Bowdabra from the top scrunchy bow style and push down like an accordion. Now scrunch everything down with the Bowdabra wand. Then, insert the loose wires through the loop and pull tight while the bow is still in the Bowdabra. Then, remove the bow from the Bowdabra, separate the ends, turn to the back, and tie a knot. Tie a double knot for extra security.
fluff the bow and pull the tails down. Use the excess wire to tie the mini lantern swag to your lantern.
