Learn how to make a gorgeous rustic rag bow wreath using fabric scraps, lace, velvet ribbon, and the Bowdabra bow maker. In this step-by-step DIY, Sandy Sandler, the creator of the Bowdabra walks you through how to turn simple materials into a charming farmhouse-style wreath perfect for any season.
Materials:
Square wreath form
Nautical rope
Velvet ribbon
Lace
Fabric scraps
Brooch

Instructions:
First, weave the rope in between the wires all around the wreath form. Set it aside.
Next, cut a piece of Bowdabra bow wire. Then, fold it in half and insert it into the Bowdabra. You will have a loop on one side and two loose wires on the other side. This will serve as your slipknot. Tuck the ends under to stay out of the way while you are making your bow.
Lay in some tail. Take the velvet ribbon and scrunch it down into the Bowdabra. Next, add a length of lace in the Bowdabra. Now, continue to add fabric scraps for more tails. Add a length of lace.
Make the bow:
Take a length of the velvet ribbon and place it in the Bowdabra, fold over to make a loop, twist, and fold again. Continue to fold and twist to make loops.
Next, add some fabric scraps to make some more loops and finally place in a fabric scrap bring it across, and then scrunch down in the center.
Take the long piece of fabric and make another loopy style bow making sure the wrong side of the fabric is on the inside of the bow.
Finish with a long piece of lace simply folding back and forth since both sides are the same.
Slightly shape the bow while it is still in the Bowdabra. Now, scrunch everything down with the Bowdabra wand. Then, insert the loose wires through the loop and pull tight while the bow is still in the Bowdabra. Then, remove the bow from the Bowdabra, separate the ends, turn to the back, and tie a knot. Tie a double knot for extra security.
Use the excess wire to tie the bow to the prepared wreath frame. Fluff out and arrange the bow. For the final touch pin an antique or other brooch to the center of the bow. You have a beautiful, rustic rag bow wreath.
