Hi there! I’m Lisa from The Rustic Vine, part of the Bowdabra Design Team, and today I’m excited to share a charming DIY shelf sitter tutorial featuring a birdhouse adorned with a beautiful Bowdabra bow. This delightful project is a great way to bring some rustic charm into your home that anyone can make. Let’s dive in and create this lovely decor piece together!
scrap wood
2 medium popsicle sticks from Dollar Tree
Printable, napkin, or image of choice
ModPodge
fabric or ribbon of choice, crape fabric
drawer pull
tiny nails or furniture racks
greenery
Small piece of black paper or black paint for bird opening
First, spread some ModPodge all over the front of a wooden plank and attach a printable on top. Let dry and then add some more ModPodge on top. Next, use some distressing ink all around the edges.
To make the roof of the birdhouse, cut two popsicle sticks at an angle. Go over them with the distressing ink and then glue and staple them to the top for a roof. Now, glue some greenery all around the roof area.
Now, add a drawer pull that you have already distressed with the same ink as before and add to the bottom of the birdhouse with some furniture tacks.
Next, add some greenery to the birdhouse randomly.
Next, take some Bowdabra bow wire or some jute and fold it in half. Lay it in the Bowdabra so you will have a loop on one side and two loose wires on the other which will be used as a slip knot.
Now lay in some crepy material and ribbons to form a bow. Now thread the loose wire or jute through the loop and pull tight while the bow is still in the Bowdabra. Remove from the Bowdabra.
Glue the finished bow to the top center over the greenery and finally add a charm in the center. For an extra touch, stamp a small piece of fabric with the word, “sing” and attach it with a rustic safety pin. What a wonderfully charming shelf sitter!
