Hello! I’m Joette from the Bowdabra Design Team, and I’m thrilled to guide you through a simple and beautiful DIY door swag that you can whip up in no time! This project doesn’t require any hot glue, making it ideal for crafters of every skill level. Let’s get started on crafting a delightful door swag that will beautifully elevate your home decor this season!
Alene’s Stiffen Quik
2 different colors/patterns of 2.5” wide Wired ribbon
1.5” wide Wired ribbon
2 yards of 21” wide deco mesh
Long ficus branch
2 fern bushes
Floral bush
2 blooming branch bushes
First, spray the stiffening solution on the pieces of ribbon and let it dry. This will also seal the fraying.
Next, cut a fairly long piece of Bowdabra bow wire. Then, fold it in half and insert it into the Bowdabra. You will have a loop on one side and two loose wires on the other side. This will serve as your slipknot. Tuck the ends under to stay out of the way while you are making your bow.
Now, fold the ends under to hide any fraying of the 21″ wide deco mesh. Center and insert it into the Bowdabra from the top, and scrunch down. When you get to the end, fold under as you did in the beginning.
Next, place a ficus branch in the Bowdabra facing down and follow with a floral pick cascading down.
Now, fan all around the back with two ferns. Add some more florals directly into the Bowdabra.
Place a length of ribbon for the tails in the center of the Bowdabra.
To make a multi-loop twist and fold bow, Scrunch in the ribbon, then, bring the ribbon across and scrunch down, twist, and repeat. Continue making loops back and forth twisting and scrunching down into the Bowdabra. Make sure the wrong sides are always on the inside of the bow.
Take two small pieces of the same ribbon and make an “X” in the center making the bow larger. Next, make another twist and fold style bow with the rosebud ribbon making the loops slightly smaller than the other bow.
Using the final ribbon make a shoe bow style bow on top. To make a little shoe bow find the center of a piece of ribbon and scrunch it down into the Bowdabra. Now bring one side across and scrunch down, then bring the other side across and scrunch down. For the final touch lay in a large flower.
Now, scrunch everything down with the Bowdabra wand. Then, insert the loose wires through the loop and pull tight while the bow is still in the Bowdabra. Then, remove the bow from the Bowdabra, separate the ends, turn to the back, and tie a knot. Tie a double knot for extra security. Fluff everything and adjust the florals and bow loops. You have a beautiful DIY door swag!
