Hi there! I’m Brandy, of A Rustic Stitch for the Bowdabra Design Team. Today, I’ve got a fantastic project in store for you. We’re going to create a bright and cheery spring chicken centerpiece that will infuse your space with rustic joy. Get ready to unleash your creativity and have a blast crafting! Let’s dive right in!
Chick cut out
Cardboard wing shape
Stand: wood plank, wood rail, or blocks
White Tissue Paper
Paints: White & Mineral chalk paint, Bright Yellow acrylic
Distress Ink: Antique Linen, Vintage Photo, Picket Fence
White wax
Greenery and florals of choice
Moss
White cardstock tag with 1/2″ stamps for words “chirp, chirp”
Bow: 12″ strips of muslin, yellow plaid, grey ticking/topped with button & tag
First, brush a coat of white chalk paint over the entire chicken cut-out. Let dry.
Next, brush some ModPodgee over one side of the cut-out and place some crumpled-up tissue paper on top for some added texture. Remove the excess tissue paper with a mini sander.
Now, add some yellow paint mixed with a bit of white to the front of the cut-out. When dry brush on some more white paint to bring out the texture.
Next, cut out a wing-shaped piece from a piece of corrugated cardboard. Brush on some paint and let dry.
Distress the edges of the chicken with some distressing ink for visual interest. Repeat on the wing piece. When dry, wipe on some white wax. Using hot glue, attach the wing piece to the chicken.
Cut a piece of Bowdabra bow wire, fold it in half, and lay it in the Bowdabra. Now begin laying in Muslim fabric strips and ribbons. Fold one side to make a loop and make a matching loop on the other side. Tie with a slip knot and remove the bow from the Bowdabra. Turn to the back and tie a knot. Hot glue the bow to the neck of the chicken.
Finally, make a little stand with some wood pieces. Paint it with some chalk paint and then attach the chick. Glue or staple some greenery and florals to the bottom of the stand. Create a little tag with some stamped letters. Attach the tag and add a button for the final touch. You have the cutest little chicken centerpiece! Wouldn’t this be a wonderful addition to your Easter table?
