Welcome to our Bowdabra first-time bow tutorial! I’m Joette from the Bowdabra Design Team, and today, I’m joined by Callie as she makes her very first bow. Together, we’ll create a beautiful all-purpose bow, perfect for Fauna’s adoption event and photo shoot. Follow along as we guide you through each step, showing you just how easy it is to fix any mistakes along the way, all thanks to the Bowdabra being like a third hand and holding everything for you as you design! Let’s get started!
10”-12” of Bowdabra Scrunchy Ribbon
20”-24” of 2.5” wide ribbon of choice
8”-10” of a sparkling garland
First, cut a piece of Bowdabra bow wire. Then, fold it in half and insert it into the Bowdabra. You will have a loop on one side and two loose wires on the other side. This will serve as your slipknot. Tuck the ends under to stay out of the way while you are making your bow.
Next, take a 10-inch piece of scrunchy ribbon, find the center, and place it in the Bowdabra. Dovetail the ends. To dovetail, fold the ribbon in half and cut at an angle away from the fold.
Now, since these bows are for a dog harness remove the wires from the 2 1/2″ wide ribbon.
Take a piece of ribbon and twist it to make the pretty side face up. Then, bring the other side across making a loop. Now, repeat this step on the opposite side reversing the loop and tails.
Scrunch everything down with the Bowdabra wand. At this point, you can make sure everything is straight and just where you want it.
Next, add some sparkly garland. place one end in the Bowdabra bring it across to make a loop, then make a matching loop on the other side.
Insert the loose wires through the loop and pull tight while the bow is still in the Bowdabra. Then, remove the bow from the Bowdabra, separate the ends, turn to the back, and tie a knot. Tie a double knot for extra security. The Bowdabra wire makes it so easy!
Fluff and shape the bow and use the excess wire to tie the bow to the dog’s collar or harness. So easy and such a beautiful addition to a plain harness. You can see how simple it is to make a gorgeous first-time bow with absolutely no effort!
