After all the holiday decorations are taken down and packed away, my home feels empty and naked. This wood block snowman is the perfect winter decoration to brighten things up.Wood Block Snowman

Gather these supplies:Supplies for Wood Block Snowman

    • Three wood craft blocks
    • White acrylic paint
    • Black, orange, and pink acrylic paints — OR
    • Black, orange, and pink markers
    • Paintbrush
    • Liquid wood adhesive
    • Child’s sock
    • Scissors

Let’s make a wood block snowman:

  1.  First, paint the wood blocks white. You may need to use two coats of paint to get adequate coverage, but you don’t have to paint the bottom surface.Paint Each Block White
  2. When the white paint is thoroughly dry, add the black details—eyes, mouth, and buttons—to two of the blocks. You can use a black marker or paint. It’s easy to add the eyes and buttons with paint. Just drip a pencil eraser into a small puddle of paint, and press in place on the wood block. The dots for the mouth are smaller but can be made by the same method using the handle tip of an artist’s paintbrush.Add Black Details
  3. Next, add the remaining facial features—nose, cheeks, and glint in the eyes. Draw or paint the nose. The cheeks can be painted using a small pencil eraser, drawn in with a marker, or omitted. Be sure the black paint on the eyes is dry before using a paintbrush handle dipped in white paint to add a glint to the eyes.Add Facial Features
  4. Now, let’s make his hat. Begin by cutting the toe off a child’s sock.Cut Toe Off Sock
  5. Turn the sock inside out, and firmly tie the sock as shown. How much you cut from the toe and how far from the cut edge you gather and tie will depend on the size of the sock. A tiny baby sock may not need any alterations.Turn Sock Inside Out and Gather Cut End
  6. Turn the sock right side out, and there you have it!Turn Sock Right Side Out to Make Ski Hat
  7. Now it’s time to glue the blocks together using a liquid wood adhesive. You want them to be a bit wonky.Glue Blocks Together
  8. When the glue is dry, add the ski hat, and enjoy!!Wood Block Snowman (Instagram)
