How to Make the Perfect Halloween Door Hanger for “You’ve Been BOOed” Fun

You’ve Been BOOed
is a fun Halloween tradition for kids. Here’s how it works: you anonymously leave Halloween door hanger with a small gift or treat at a friend’s or neighbor’s door with a note saying, “You’ve Been BOOed!!” The recipient, then, replaces your treat with a “We’ve been BOOed!!” sign letting others know they received a Halloween surprise.

The young artist will love making these Halloween door hangers for their You’ve Been Booed treats and secretly delivering them in your neighborhood.

You've Been BOOed Door Hanger

Here are the supplies you’ll need:

  • 8½” x 11″ Halloween themed patterned paper
  • Double-sided tape
  • Bone folder
  • Twine or narrow ribbon
  • Ruler
  • Paper punch

Let’s make a You’ve Been Booed door hanger:

  1. First, cut the paper in half to get two 8½”W x 5½”H pieces of paper. One sheet of paper makes two door hangers.
  2. Next, lay the paper with the 8½” width horizontal on the table. Measure and mark the center at 4¼”.
  3. Then, fold the right side just over the center mark and firmly crease with a bone folder. If you don’t have a bone folder, the side of a pen or pencil works, too.
  4. Next, fold the left side over the right side, overlapping by about ¼”. Crease with a bone folder.
  5. Place a strip of double-sided tape on the right flap. Expose the adhesive, and glue the left flap in place.
  6. Now, fold the bottom up about 1½”, and crease with a bone folder.
  7. Open the bottom fold as shown.
  8. Next, flatten each side of the open bottom, and crease with a bone folder.
  9. Fold the top down just past the center, and crease with a bone folder.
  10. Fold the bottom up slightly overlapping the top fold, and crease with a bone folder.
    Finishing:
  11. Open the bottom fold, and add double-sided tape to the center of the bottom. Expose adhesive, and refold the bottom.
  12. Then, fold each side along a line between the marked points, and crease with a bone folder.
  13. Next, put your hand in the door hanger and gently open.
  14. Punch holes in the top of the bag.
  15. To finish your Halloween door hanger, thread twine or ribbon through the holes. Attach a You’ve Been BOOed label.
  16. Now you’re ready to BOO your neighborhood.

This same folding method works with any size paper. Larger pieces of paper make larger door hangers. Also, you can even make tiny bags with smaller paper pieces. Experiment to find what works best for you.
