How To Video – Make An unexpected Fall Paint Stick Swag

Supplies:

5-gallon paint stick

2 rolls of deco mesh

Chenille stems

3 pumpkin accents

Ribbon

Floral wire

Fall Floral accents

Bowdabra bow maker

Bowdabra bow wire

Instructions:

First, prepare your paint stick.  For the hanger, measure two lengths of some floral wire. Twist the wire around the top of the paint stick.  You will have a long piece and a short piece of wire. Wrap each piece of wire around the paint stick three times going in the opposite directions. Now, thread the wires under and twist them to form one piece of wire.  Twist to form a small loop for hanging. Twist the extra wire around.

Add the chenille stems:

Next, twist the first chenille stem onto the paint stick under the wire.  Repeat with another chenille stem on the opposite side. Repeat this step at the opposite end of the paint stick about 2 1/2″ from the end.

Continue adding sets of chenille stems in approximately the middle of the paint stick. Now, in the middle between the two sets of chenille stems add one chenille stem each coming straight up. You will have three sets of double chenille stems and two single chenille stems.

Make the “Cruffles”:

To make a cruffle, roll one end of the 23″ piece of mesh three times and hold it with a chip clip.  Now, roll the opposite end three times and hold that with a chip clip as well.  Next, gather the center to form a cruffle.

Attach the cruffle flat side down by twisting the first set of chenille stems.  On the single chenille stem lay the cruffle horizontally to fill up the paint stick. Continue adding cruffles in this manner.

Use a second color of mesh, cut them into smaller pieces, and simply roll them.  Add them together to form an X shape. Place another roll straight across. Add these bundles to the chenille stems.

Add the ribbon bundles:

Next, cut some ribbon into 10″ strips and dovetail the ends. Using the Bowdabra, cut a piece of bow wire, fold it in half, and place it in the Bowdabra.  Pinch the center of the ribbon strips and place them in the Bowdabra one at a time. Tie up the ribbon bundles and add them to the chenille stems on the paint stick swag. Fluff out the ribbon.

Finishing the paint stick swag:

Use some hot glue to attach a chenille stem to the pumpkin accents and then add them to the paint stick swag. Use some more hot glue to add some floral extras.
