Hello, I’m Brandy from A Rustic Stitch, for the Bowdabra Design Team. In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to create a charming rooster sign adorned with a beautiful Bowdabra bow. Get ready to add a touch of rustic elegance to your decor with this delightful DIY project. Let’s get started!
Material List:
Square sign about 11 x 11
Calendar page from Dollar Tree’s 2024 Locally Grown (or other print)
Modpodge
Cardboard
Florals
Chicken wire
Paints: Lacquer chalk paint, Antique Wax
Distressing Ink
Bow material: Red stripe, dark brown, lace, burlap
Instructions:
First, use some decorative wallpaper to cover up the image on a Dollar Tree sign. Next, turn over and paint over the back side with some chalk paint.
Now, brush some ModPodge all over the painted side, line up the calendar print, and iron it on. Brush on a final coat of ModPodge.
Next, cut some corner pieces from corrugated cardboard and paint it red. Brush on some antiquing wax and wipe it off with a baby wipe for a vintage feel. Use some hot glue to attach the corner pieces to your sign.
Next, attach some chicken wire to the bottom of the sign. Add some greenery and florals to cover where you attached the chicken wire.
Make the bow:
Cut a piece of Bowdabra bow wire or twine in half and lay it in the Bowdabra. Now begin placing in the burlap, lace ribbon, and fabric one at a time. Add some loops of jute and red/white fabric.
Now, thread the loose wire through the loop and pull tight. Remove the bow from the Bowdabra, turn to the back, and tie a knot. Glue the bow to the top of the sign.
Finally, use some distressing ink all around the edges and attach a hanger to the back. You have a charming rooster sign that was super easy to make in just a few minutes!
