Hi! I’m Brandy, from A Rustic Stitch and a member of the Bowdabra Design team. I’m super excited to take you on a crafting Christmas in July adventure today. Today we will make an easy and stunning patchwork winter tree. Together, we’ll dive into the magical world of creativity and make something truly special.
This is the perfect piece of decor when transitioning from the Christmas season to Winter. And guess what? We’re going to add a gorgeous Bowdabra bow to give it an extra touch of elegance. So grab your crafting supplies, let your imagination run wild, and get ready for a whimsical project that’ll bring warmth and joy to your home. Let’s get started!
Wood tree cut out
Wood slat
Cardboard
Chalk paint- Plaster & Moss
Acrylic paint- Gilded Oak
Antique wax
Neutral ribbon
Muslin
Cheesecloth
Bell
Greenery
Pinecones
First, basecoat the wood tree and wood piece. Next, use some cardboard to make patchwork piece shapes. Now, peel away a layer of paper on the cardboard to show the corrugation. Brush a coat of paint on the prepared pieces and lay out your shapes on the tree for placement.
Now, using some gold and green paint dry brush the tree cutout. Repeat this dry brushing with green and gold on the patchwork pieces as well. Dry completely and then sand to distress the tree and all around the edges of the tree.
Next, brush on a layer of ModPodge on the tree and let it dry. When dry, apply some of the antique wax and wipe it off with a wet wipe. Add some of the antique wax on the base wood piece as well.
Attach all the patchwork pieces on the tree cut out with some hot glue.
Gather some scrap greenery and create some bunches tying together with a zip tie. Glue a greenery bundle to each side at the base of the tree. Glue some mini pinecones and twigs to the center base.
To make the bow, cut a piece of Bowdabra bow wire, fold it in half, and lay it in the Bowdabra. Next, use various ribbons, muslin, and fabric to make loops back and forth. Scrunch everything down with the Bowdabra wand. Thread the loose wires through the loop and pull tight. Remove from the Bowdabra, separate the wires, turn to the back, and tie a knot. Fluff out the bow.
Use some hot glue to attach the bow to the top of the tree. Fluff out the bow and add some pieces of greenery and for the final touch add a bell to the center of the bow. You have a lovely patchwork winter tree that will be perfect for the holidays and extend into the winter as well!
