Hi, I’m Lisa with Crafting with Mimi, for the Bowdabra Design Team. Get ready to add a touch of springtime charm to your home decor! In this tutorial, we’ll walk you through creating a beautiful decorative birdhouse. You’ll learn how to craft an eye-catching piece that will bring a delightful touch of nature indoors. Let’s dive into this fun-filled DIY project together and create a unique decorative birdhouse that will brighten up any space!
Wood birdhouse (mine is from Walmart)
Paints: Sage, burnt umber and vanilla
Modpodge
Hot glue
Napkin, scrapbook paper, or printable with birds (mine is a printable from Etsy)
Ribbon or ripped fabric of choice for bow
1 button
Spanish moss
Metal key embellishment (Amazon)
First, lightly apply burnt umber paint to the roof and sides of the birdhouse. Go in with sage color paint next to fill in any of the gaps that show through. Once the paint is dry, lightly sand to blend in.
Next, apply a coat of Modpodge to the front surface of the birdhouse. Then, gently lay your napkin, paper, or printable where you want it. Smooth it out with your hand. Trim off any excess paper with sandpaper.
Now, cut out the hole of the birdhouse if needed with an Xacto knife
Now, grab your Bowdabra and your fabric or ribbon to begin making your bow.
First cut a piece of wire, twine, fabric, or ribbon and place it into the center space of your Bowdabra, and tuck the ends under to keep them out of your way
Now, begin adding your fabric or ribbon in an X pattern, layering it up as much as you want, until you’re happy with it.
Bring the wire (or fabric)up from the center, tie a knot, cinching it down tightly to secure the bow together.
Bring the loose ends of the wire to the back of the bow and tie a knot.
To finish, fluff your bow and trim off any excess until you’re happy with it. Add a button to the middle if desired.
Secure your bow to the top of your birdhouse with some hot glue.
Draw a chain by connecting tiny circles in a row, then hot glue the metal key to the bottom of the chain
