Here’s how to create your own elegant silverware holders using rhinestone mesh ribbon, the Bowdabra bow-making tool, and bow wire. They look quite exquisite but easy and simple to make! And the best part, the silverware holder is put together just using Bowdabra Bow Wire! Adding a beautiful touch to your tablescape and the perfect decorative accessory for a romantic wedding.
Begin by laying out the mesh ribbon and place a silverware piece (fork) on top. For a visual presentation of the silverware, fold the mesh over the fork to measure where to cut to create a holder. In this case – at the 5.5″ mark.
Remove the fork making sure the mesh ribbon is folded neatly and straight, matching rows. Then cut mesh, creating a folded 5.5″ piece.
Then cut a 20″ piece of Bowdabra bow wire, folding in half. Dip the two ends into a quick-drying glue and twist each end to a point and let dry. Then, making sure the folded mesh holder rows are evenly aligned – straight, matching, and together, insert the bow wire ends into the first holes at the bottom fold (in one side and out the other) – pulling the bow wire out midway.
Make a lark’s head knot by inserting the wire ends through the loop . . .
and pulling tight, securing the mesh sides together at the fold.
Then sew the mesh together with the bow wire creating overcast stitches by inserting the ends through the next opening or hole, overlapping the rows to the next hole connecting both mesh layers together.
Continue sewing the two layers together with the bow wire, wrapping the edges of the two mesh sides together . . .
taking the bow wire ends through to the next hole, overlapping and continuing through the next hole along the entire side to secure
Reaching the top, insert bow wire ends inside, tying in a double knot and . . .
cutting off excess wire.
Repeat steps for closing the opposite side to form the silverware holder.
To dress up the silverware holder, let’s make a pretty mesh bow. Begin by cutting an 18″ piece of Bowdabra Bow Wire and folding it in half. There will be a loop at one end and two loose ends at the other end. Lay it into the Bowdabra, tucking ends, and loop under. Cut a 16″ piece of rhinestone mesh ribbon, right side facing down and creasing one end down into the Bowdabra.
Make another crease on the opposite end of the mesh ribbon, taking it up over the Bowdabra tower and down into the Bowdabra.
Then make a crease in the center of the mesh ribbon . . .
down into the Bowdabra, creating 3″ loops on each side.
Scrunch down the mesh ribbon with the Bowdabra wand.
While the bow is still in the Bowdabra, take the two loose ends of the Bow Wire through the loop at the other end, pulling tightly while . . .
gently pulling the bow out.
Separate the loose ends, taking them around to the back of the bow, tying in a double knot.
Then cut out 3 rows of rhinestones mesh, five inches long to wrap around the middle of the bow, sealing with glue for a finishing knot.
Attach the bow to the top middle of the silverware holder by inserting the bow wire through openings and securely tying in a double knot inside the holder.
What a pretty silverware holder!
