2020 had quite a few challenges but the great toilet paper hoarding was one of the craziest I have ever seen. Lest we forget I thought I would commemorate this year with a fun toilet paper ornament.
Materials:
- Paper towels
- Cardstock or Bristol board
- Small paintbrush handle
- Mini Bowdabra
- Bowdabra bow wire
- 1 3/8” wide wired velvet ribbon
- Puffy gold star
- Printer and printer paper (optionally use a marker and paper)
- Tacky craft glue
- Red and white chenille stems twisted together
- Scissors
- Ruler
Instructions:
First, Cut 6 strips from paper towels, 2” x 11”. I used a paper cutter but you can cut it with scissors just as quickly.
Next, cut a piece of cardstock 1 ¼” x 2”. Using the handle of a small paintbrush twist the paper around to form a tube. Then, glue it together.
Using the strips of paper towels, glue the end, and twist around the tube. Continue attaching the strips until you have reached about 2 inches from the last strip and glue, allowing the excess to hang freely. (This is where the great toilet paper debate comes into play depending upon whether you like lit to hang over or under)
Now twist the two chenille stems together and feed it through the tube. Form the toilet paper hanger.
Make the bow for your ornament
To make the bow cut a piece of Bowdabra bow wire, fold in half, and insert into the Mini Bowdabra. Next, cut an 8” strip of wired ribbon. Lay it in the Bowdabra, bring it over the Bowdabra, and under the loop inserting it into the Bowdabra. Then, push in the center to form the bow. Push down with the Bowdabra wand.
Now, insert the loose wires through the loop and pull tight. Separate the ends, remove from the Bowdabra, turn to the back and tie a knot.
Meanwhile, print 2020 with the font of your choice on printer paper and use a marker and paper.
Now, glue the bow to the top of the toilet paper hanger. Attach the puffy star in the top center or the toilet paper ornament with some more glue and then the paper 2020.
