The colorful comics section of the newspaper makes a lovely creative gift wrap for kids or the young at heart! But the amazing thing about this is that you can also make comic strip ribbon out of the comics section, too! How cool is that! It’s a great way to recycle or go green using the comics section as gift wrapping into a lovely gift! It’s eco-friendly and it looks infinitely cooler than anything available you can buy from a roll. So get creative and have fun wrapping your present with the comics section of the newspaper and then topping it off with a unique comic strip ribbon bow created using the Mini Bowdabra! Here’s how:
Materials:
Comics Section of Newspaper
Mod Podge
Parchment Paper
Scissors/Brush/Ruler
Mini Bowdabra, Measuring Tool, Wand
Bowdabra Bow Wire
How to Make Comics Ribbon:
Let’s begin by opening a full page of comics and applying Mod Podge to the entire side using a paint brush. Then close the page at the fold, smoothing it out, end to end. Then apply more Mod Podge to the top and let dry. Once dry, turn the paper over and apply Mod Podge to that side, too. Let the paper dry completely. The paper will feel like faux leather when dry.
Next, cut the decoupaged comics into 5/8″ ribbon strips. Lengthen the strips by sealing ends together with Mod Podge and let dry.
To Make the Comics Ribbon Bow:
Insert an 18″ piece of bow wire folded in half into the Mini Bowdabra, tucking ends under. Then, make a crease near the end of the comics ribbon strip and place it into the Mini Bowdabra.
Fold the comics ribbon at the 2″ mark and press into the Mini Bowdabra. This is your first loop.
Next, fold the other side at the same 2″ loop width. Continue folding loops one at a time down through the center of the Mini Bowdabra . . .
making 9 loops on each side for a total of 18 loops. Then scrunch down the loops with the Mini Bowdabra Wand.
While the bow is still in the Mini Bowdabra, thread the two loose ends of the bow wire through the loop at the other end pulling tightly, tie in a knot and gently pull the bow out. Then cut off excess bow wire.
Wrap gift with a sheet of the comics and . . .
glue the comics strip ribbon gift bow on top . . .
for an adorable and unique look!
