Hi, I’m Sandy Sandler, the creator of the Bowdabra Bowmaker. Today, I’m going to show you how to make this super simple dollar store DIY gift basket to give to someone to say, “Get Well Soon.” So, let’s get started.
Materials:
Bowdabra gingham check spring ribbon
Yellow spring ribbon
Dollar store large mug
Sizzle pack
Butterfly pick
Spring leaf pick
Fillings for the mug, lozenges, tea bags, honey packs, tissues, lemon
Clear plastic gift bag
First, I’m going to start by taking my piece of Bowdabra Bow Wire, I’ve folded it in half, I’m just going to lay it into my Bowdabra. Then I just tuck the ends underneath so they stay out of my way.
Next, I’m going to take my first piece of ribbon, now I’ve already dovetailed it, but just in case you’re not familiar with how to dovetail, what you do is just fold it in half and cut from the edge into the fold, and so you get these really pretty dovetails.
Make the bow for the get well gift basket
So now, I’ll take this, fold it in half, and then just going to scrunch it down into my Bowdabra. And I have another piece of our Bowdabra Spring Ribbon, and I’m just going to lay that into the Bowdabra. And then, I have a piece of the gingham check, so I’m going to take the right side of the ribbon, put that down into my Bowdabra. I’m going to fold it over. Again, I’m going to take the right side of the ribbon and put that down in there. That way, the wrong side of the ribbon is on the inside of my loops. I’ll scrunch that down.
Then, I have this piece of yellow ribbon that we’re just going to scrunch in here. And I think the yellow is so bright and cheery. And then, I’ll take another piece of our gingham check, but we’re going to do a scrunch bow here. Right at the end, I’m going to fold this over so that it has a very clean finish.
Next, I’ll take my Bowdabra Bow Wire and just pull this up through the slipknot, pull it tight while it’s still in the Bowdabra. I pull it out and separate the ends, bring it around to the back. I’m going to tie a knot and tie another knot. Finally, just sort of shape it out and bring my tails down. And then, I’m going to put this over to the side.
Filling your get well gift basket
So, I’m going to need a piece of bow wire, so I’m just going to cut a piece here. It’s going to help me tie off my gift basket when I get finished with it. So, we have this large dollar store mug, and I’ve already put Sizzle pack in it. When you have a big mug like this, however, sometimes the pack can push down. So, I’ve put some plastic in here at the bottom. That just makes it so I don’t have to spend as much money on the sizzle pack. We’re trying to make this economical yet really useful.
Now, we add these throat lozenges that we got at the dollar store, and we’re just going to put those in the back of our basket. Over to the side, I’m going to put the tissues. That’s it, we’ll put them in right like that. This just adds a lot of colors. And then, in the back, I add these leaves. Next, I’m going to put my cute little butterflies just right over here.
And then now, I have my lemon, which I’m going to put in next. And then, what I’m going to do is just kind of tuck the tea bags just over here. I’m going to take my little honey packets and tuck those in. Make sure they’re right-side up. So we want to fix that one there.
Finishing your gift basket
To finish, what I’m going to do is take my bag and I’m going to open it up. And I’m just going to just kind of work the bag up around my gift. So, we’ll pull it up here. So, it’s a little tricky but we can get this. Sometimes, when I’m making these, I’ll actually put the cup in the bag first. So, we’ll pull this all up here.
Now, to make the top of the bag, you can see why I have my extra Bowdabra Bow Wire. What I’m going to do here is I’m just going to fan this in and fan the other side, and then pull it all together here, take my wire, fold it in half so that it’s easy to tie off because I have this little slipknot here.
So, I’ll just pull it through then bring it out, bring it around to the back, and I’ll just lay this down so you can see what I’m doing from the top camera. And just tie a little loop on there. And then, I’m going to take my bow and we’re just going to tie this on here. And again, what I’m doing here is I’m tying it like I would tie my shoelace, so you can see it’s easy for the person who receives the gift. And then we’re just going to finish shaping out the project. So now, you have this great, inexpensive, but a super sweet gift basket that you can give to someone to say, “Get Well Soon.”
