There are so many gorgeous fall florals in the stores right now. I love to have these florals in every room but I don’t have enough vases. So I noticed the faux pumpkins are a plethora of autumn color and they are so simple to carve into a pumpkin vase. So I cut the top around the removed it large enough for some faux florals to fit inside. Then, I added a beautiful Bowdabra bow in a corresponding color. Since I am not confident they will hold water I don’t use them with fresh flowers. They do, however, look great with some silk flowers and leaves! It’s a perfect centerpiece!
How to Make a Pumpkin vase
Materials:
- Faux pumpkin in your choice of color
- Fall floral bushes and leaves
- Halloween or Fall ribbon 2 ½” wide wire edge
- Bowdabra
- Bowdabra bow wire
- Glue dots or hot glue
Instructions:
First, using a sharp knife, cut around the top stem end of the pumpkin. Push down with the knife and work around making an opening large enough to insert your fall floral bush.
I put the cut top inside the pumpkin in case I want to use the pumpkin later for carving.
Then, insert your floral bush and leaves. Arrange in a pleasing shape.
Make your bow. First cut a piece of Bowdabra bow wire. Fold it in half and insert into the Bowdabra. You will have a loop on one side and two loose wires on the other. This will be your slipknot.
Cut a piece of the wire edge ribbon 16” long. Fold in half and cut towards the fold to make a dovetail on each end. Fold in half to find the center and insert printed edge facing up in the Bowdabra. (These are your tails.)
Next, cut a piece of ribbon about 55” inches long. Then, insert your ribbon print side down into the Bowdabra and make a loop about 3 inches wide on the opposite side. Twist to make sure the right side of the ribbon is facing up and make a matching loop on the other side. Keep adding loops and twist so that the loops are facing the right side up. Continue making loops on each side till you have about three on both sides. Then make a small loop in the center to finish the bow.
Scrunch down with the Bowdabra wand. Insert the two loose wires through the loop and pull tight while the bow is still in the Bowdabra. Remove and turn to the back and tie a knot. Double knot it for security. Adjust your bow. Use a glue dot or some hot glue to attach to the front of the pumpkin vase.
