How to Make a Bow for an amazing Halloween Wreath
Hey everyone! I’m Simply Shalese here to make an awesome Halloween wreath with you guys!
Today we will be making a simple and adorable loopy Halloween bow that will look perfect on a Halloween wreath. This bow is so easy to make. Let’s get started!
Materials:
Scissors
Wire-edged ribbon (width and color of your choice)
Placing the Bow Wire
The first thing I do is fold my bow wire in half and place it in the center of the Bowdabra. I usually use about 14 inches or so. Make sure you have enough to tie the bow at the end. If this bow is going to be placed on a wreath, then I suggest using more bow wire so that it can be tied to your Halloween wreath.
Adding Your Tails
The next step is to decide on the length of your tails. The tails are the pieces of ribbon that hand down from your bow. You can have as many or as few tails as you’d like. The length is also up to you. For this specific bow, I wanted a decent size tail so I used about 24 inches of ribbon to make two 12 inch long tails. If you don’t want tails, you can definitely skip this step.
Once you’ve decided on the length of your tails, cut the ribbon and fold it in half at the center. This will help you ensure both tails are the same length. After you fold, scrunch your ribbon along the fold and place it down on your Bowdabra. If you want more tails, then just repeat this step.
Adding Your Loops
Next, take the edge of your wire-edged ribbon and scrunch it. Make sure the right side of the ribbon is facing down when you start scrunching. After you have placed the first end of your ribbon, you are going to make a loop with the ribbon. The size of the loop depends on how large you want your bow to be. Once you decide on the size of your loop, you’re going to scrunch the ribbon again, but before you place the ribbon, you’re going to twist the ribbon. This step is done so that the right side of the ribbon continues to face upwards.
After you’ve scrunched and twisted the ribbon, you make another loop. Try to keep the sizes of the loops as close as possible. Continue making loops and each time scrunch and twist your ribbon before making another loop. Repeat this step for as many loops as you’d like. Be sure to use your wand to help scrunch the ribbon together as you’re creating your bow.
Tying the Bow Wire
Once you’ve made the bow as large as you’d like and you’ve added as many loops as you want, cut the ribbon. I always like to scrunch the ribbon one more time before tying the wire. So after the scrunch, bring the bow wire together from both ends and place the two open ends inside the looped end of the wire. Hold your bow in place with one hand and pull the bow wire taut with the other hand.
Adding the Finishing Touches
Carefully remove your bow from the Bowdabra and tie the bow wire in a knot. I prefer to tie several knots just for extra security. Then cut any excess bow wire or you can keep it in place to help assist with tying your bow to the wreath. Then pull each loop and adjust it to look exactly the way you want it. Now, place it on your Halloween wreath and you’re all done!
