It’s Christmas in July and time to get a head start on making handcrafted Christmas ornaments like this lovely cork pinecone bow ornament! It’s made from recycled wine corks and foam eggs from Easter and topped with a pretty Bowdabra bow!
So, avoid the stress and rushed feelings the Christmas season brings and actually enjoy creating ornaments and holiday items this time of year.
Instructions:
Let’s begin by slicing wine corks with a sharp, smooth blade knife into thin slices. I was able to slice about 12-15 pieces from one cork. Next, starting at the tapered end of the egg-shape foam ball, begin gluing on the cork slices, overlapping as you move up the egg shape. A dab of glue is all you need, but do hold the slice in place until the hot glue sets.
Now, continue overlapping and gluing on the slices moving up and around the egg until . . .
it is completely covered for an awesome looking cork pinecone!
Make the Bow
To Make the Bowdabra Bow:
Fold an 18″ bow wire in half and insert into the Mini Bowdabra, tucking ends under. Next, make a crease about an inch from the ribbon’s end and press into the Mini Bowdabra. To make the first loop, fold and crease the ribbon at the 2 1/2″ mark on the measuring tool and press into the Mini BowdabraNext, make a fold for a loop on the other side at the same 2 1/2″ mark.
Then, continue folding loops, one side at a time, inserting down into the Mini Bowdabra.
I was able to make nine loops on each side with a two-inch tail before running out of ribbon. Next, scrunched down all the loops with the Mini Bowdabra Wand.
While the bow is still in the Mini Bowdabra, thread the two loose ends of the bow wire through the loop, pulling tightly and tie in a knot and gently pull the bow out.
Wrap the end tail around the center, gluing in back. Create a loop for hanging with the bow wire and knot. Cut off excess bow wire. Separate and fluff the loops.
Attach the bow to the top of the cork pinecone with hot glue.
This handcrafted cork pinecone bow ornament looks perfect for tree trimming, wreaths, and garlands!
