Materials:
How to make an elegant snowflake bow
Four 7-inch pieces of 1” white grosgrain ribbon
40” 1 ½” silver wire edge ribbon
Snowflake charm
Scissors
White stiffened felt (If you use as a hair bow use regular felt)
Hot glue gun and hot glue sticks
Iron and ironing board (optional) to help flatten the snowflake
Instructions:
- Gather your supplies. First, cut four 7-inch pieces of white grosgrain ribbon. Dovetail the ends of each piece. To dovetail fold each end in half and cut towards the fold.
- Next, cut a 20-inch piece of silver bow wire. Fold it in half and place it into the Bowdabra. You will have a loop on one side and two loose wires on the other side, which will be your slipknot.
- Now, begin inserting the grosgrain ribbon into the Bowdabra, fanning them out as you go. Continue adding the ribbon until you have added all four.
- Next, cut a 40” (approx.) piece of 1 ½” piece of silver wire edge ribbon. Insert the end into the Bowdabra. Make a loop on one side a little smaller than the tail of the grosgrain ribbon. Make a matching loop on the other side twisting as you insert it into the Bowdabra. Continue making loops till you have four on each side.
- Scrunch down with the Bowdabra wand.
Finishing your bow
- Insert the two loose wires through the loop and pull tight while the bow is still in the Bowdabra. Separate the wires and remove from the Bowdabra. Turn to the back and tie a knot. Then, tie a second knot. Clip the wires.
- Adjust the snowflake bow to a rounder shape. It is easier to work from the back, which will now be the front of the snowflake. Now carefully twist each of the wired ribbons and press down. Bring the closest grosgrain ribbon end through the loop of the wired ribbon and press.
- Continue pulling all the grosgrain pieces through each loop adjusting the snowflake as you work around. You may want to use an iron to press the loops flatter. When you have finished pulling all the grosgrain ribbon through the loops adjust your snowflake.
- Cut a round piece of felt and using a glue gun attach to the snowflake. (This was the front of the snowflake in the Bowdabra)
To finish, glue a large snowflake charm on the front. (Which was the back when in the Bowdabra) If you are using it as a hair bow or a brooch, attach an alligator clip or pin on the back. This very elegant snowflake bow even looks adorable as an ornament on the Christmas tree.
