It’s August already and pretty soon we’ll all be thinking about back to school and football. And when you are ready to cheer you’ll be ready with this adorable spiky cheer bow in your team’s special colors. The best part is that there is no sewing involved!
Materials:
All right, we’re going to make a cute cheer bow. And what I’m going to do first with my Mini Bowdabra is to put my tool/ruler right over my Mini Bowdabra. Then, I’m going to fold my Bowdabra Bow Wire in half and now I’m going to just tuck the ends and put that under my Bowdabra.
Next, I’ve got 6 inches of 1 ½” grosgrain ribbon and I’ve dovetailed the ends. You dovetail it basically by folding the ribbon in half and then just cutting it away from the center. After that, I also need to seal the ends, so I’m just going to do a quick run through with my flame, and that seals the ends. I’ve already sealed the ends on all of the other ribbon that I’m going to use.
So I’m going to just put this down into the center. And you can see we’ve got 3 inches on each side. I’m going to do the same thing here. And again, I’m going to grab the middle of my ribbon and scrunch that into the Bowdabra. This way I don’t need to sew, so it takes no sewing at all. And then again I’m going to get to the center. I’m going to pinch the middle and scrunch that into my Mini Bowdabra, hit my wand and kind of scrunch everything down.
In the next step, I have 17 inches of this cheer bow ribbon. Since it has the cheer word I want to make sure its all going in the right direction. So what I’m going to do is fold this in half. And I’m going to start by just putting the ribbon in the middle here. And then I’m going to take the other end and I’m going to put that in here. I’m going to fold it in half and I’m going to have the cheer going this way so you can see what I’m doing. And I’m just going to push that down in here.
Then what I’m going to do is bring my bow here and just put the end right into the Mini Bowdabra. And I’m going to do the same thing with the other end. I’m going to make like an x, and I’m going to put this end into the Mini Bowdabra. Then what I’m going to do is take the bottom, the bottom of my ribbon you can see my x here. I’m going to take the bottom of the x and going to now do the mountain up here and scrunch that into my Bowdabra. And then do the exact same thing with the top one and scrunch that into my Mini Bowdabra. So now you can see we have the cheer going in the right direction.
I’m going to do this, push my little mountain up, push it down and I’m going to take my wand, scrunch everything down into the Mini Bowdabra. Then I’ll take my wire and I have my slipknot because I folded it in half. I’m going to pull the wire through the slipknot. I’m going to hold my bow down, pull it really tight but still in the Bowdabra. Separate my ends, bring it around to the back and I’m going to tie a knot. I’m going to tie another knot just to make sure it stays nice and taut. Pull it really tight there, and then tie it onto my headband.
This makes a great spirit, cheer, or dance bow. You can do it in your team colors, and its very simple to make bunch of cheer bows. Now you could leave it just like this, but what I’ve decided to do is add a pretty pink gemstone to the middle. So I’ll just take my glue gun and put some glue here, and just put this gemstone right in the center. And then while that’s drying, I’m just going to clip the ends of my wire and you have a really, really pretty spiky cheer bow.
