Multi-toned Ribbon Butterfly Bow

Everyone loves the beauty of butterflies. And butterflies have inspired so many wonderful diy/craft projects, especially during the summer months. A favorite of mine is to turn ribbon into beautiful butterfly bows. And what better way to do this using your Mini Bowdabra. Here’s how:

 

Materials Needed
1 1/2″ wide Ribbon
Scissors
Mini Bowdabra
Bowdabra Wire
Fabri-Tac Fabric Glue
Crystal Balls
Pony Beads

To Make Butterfly Bow
1. Cut four pieces of ribbon, two of each solid and print, 12 inches long. Seal ends.

2. Run a bead of Fabri-Tac fabric glue along the edge of the solid ribbon and press print edge on top – smooth out and let dry. Repeat for the second set of ribbon.

3. Apply glue to one bottom edge of combined ribbon and press together forming an oval shape.

4. Take the center edge of ribbon and turn over to opposite side exposing wrong side and creating points on each end.

5. Repeat for second set of ribbon.

6. Turn ribbon over. There should be points on each end.

7. Cut 12 inches of Bowdabra wire, fold together, and insert into the Mini Bowdabra, tucking ends under.

8. Cinch one ribbon in the middle and insert into the Bowdabra.

9. Insert the other ribbon into the Bowdabra, separating the two, forming a butterfly shape.

10. Crunch down using the Bowdabra Wand.

11. Pull the Bowdabra wires up, pushing ends through the loop, tighten and remove. Take the wires to the back of the bow and tie into knot.

To Make Butterfly Body Embellishment:
12. Cut a 12 inch piece of Bowdabra wire and insert a pony bead onto end.

13. Fold over wire and twist wire about 1 1/2 inches.

14. Insert another pony bead through the opposite wire end and twist the same length forming the antennae.

15. Double knot wire at end of two wires twisted together.

16. Add three ball crystals to wire stopping at the knot to form the body of butterfly. Lay crystal butterfly on center of ribbon bow and wrap wire to back, tying to wire from the bow and again wrapping to the front of body and tying in knot, making sure body is secure to bow. Cut off excess wire.

You’re done!

You can attach this beautiful butterfly bow to a clip or headband and wear in your hair. Add it to a hat or wear it as a brooch. Use it in décor – fluttering around your home. The possibilities are unlimited when making this ribbon butterfly bow using your Bowdabra.
