Here is a fun 4th of July craft idea! Tint glass jars in decorative patriotic colors like red and blue. These jars look super
Recycling glass jars like whiskey bottles and mason jars are a hot and frugal decorating trend. Color the glass using white glue and food coloring.
Materials Needed:
- Recycled Jars (whiskey bottles and mason jars)
- White Glue
- Food Coloring
- Foam Brush
- Wire Patriotic Garland
- Wire Cutters
- Mini Bowdabra
- Hair Bow Tool & Ruler
- Bowdabra Bow Wire
Instructions:
1. Begin by gathering the materials you will need to color the glass jars. I used Elmer’s white glue and a generic food coloring dye.
2. Use a disposable bowl and fill the bottom of bowl with white glue. I wanted the color to be dark and vibrant so I added 10 to 15 drops of food coloring to the bowl. Mix the food coloring with the glue.
3. Use a foam brush to paint the glue onto the bottle. Completely cover the bottle with the colored glue.
4. Let the jar completely dry over night. It will dry several shades lighter.
5. Use other colors of dye and paint another bottle. I painted a mason jar red.
6. To make garland bows for the jars begin with patriotic wire garland and the Mini Bowdabra with Hair Bow Tool & Ruler. Cut 18″ of Bowdabra Bow Wire and fold the wire in half. Place the wire into the Mini Bowdabra.
7. Using wire cutters cut a 6″ strand of garland. Place the garland into the Mini Bowdabra and use the ruler to form two 3″ tails.
8. Place the wire end into the Mini Bowdabra.
9. Fold the wire at the 3″ mark to make your first loop.
10. Fold the garland on the other side to create a matching loop. Continue folding the garland wire to create additional 3″ long loops. Once you have created several cut the garland from the roll using wire cutters.
11. Scrunch down with the Mini Bowdabra Wand.
12. Thread the two tails of wire through the loop.
13. Pull the wire tightly.
14. Bring the wire around to the back of the bow and knot it.
15. Fluff the bow and separate the wire garland loops.
16. Use the Bowdabra Bow Wire to tie the bow to your tinted glass jar.
17. Design another simple garland bow using the Mini Bowdabra and Hair Bow Tool & Ruler. Attach that bow to the mason jar.
18. Display your tinted glass jars for 4th of July.
19. When the jars are filled with water the colors are extra vibrant and catch the sunlight. However, the glue and food coloring will run if you get them wet so be extra careful when filling them up.
