Before I made my own homemade storage device any ribbon I had that was not on a spool I folded it and stored it in small plastic bin storage containers. The problem with folding your ribbon is that it leaves creases. I also had an entire shelving unit dedicated to plastic storage containers and I would have to search through each bin to find the ribbon I wanted. It was a very time-consuming process.
To make my ribbon storage device: I cut two sections of 28? high green coated garden fencing that I had leftover from an outside project. I cut each section 28? by 28? with wire cutters.
To hang the ribbon storage device on the wall I used picture nails. I slightly rounded the green fencing so that it was not flush against the wall. By rounding the fencing it made it very easy to hang my ribbon onto the fencing. I hung the first section of fencing and began to place large width ribbon onto the fencing. I started at the bottom and worked my way up. (Notice the ribbon in the below picture has creases it is because I had just unfolded the ribbon. However, within a couple of days the creases were gone hanging from my storage device.)
Next, I hung the second piece of fencing, again using picture nails, and on this section I hung my hair bow ribbon (smaller width ribbon). To place ribbon onto the fencing just insert the ribbon through the fencing bring it around, over, and then let it hang.
I have used a variety of different ribbon storage devices but this homemade one is by far my favorite. I love that with a quick glance I can see a huge variety of ribbon, I love that it is so easy to remove the ribbon, and I love that my ribbon storage device is also like a piece of artwork hanging on my studio wall. Every time I look at all that ribbon I feel inspired!
