What if you belong to the Red Hat Society but you are not a hat person? My grandmother loves being a “Red Hatter” but she is not a big fan of hats. Genetically, I am the same way. I just do not enjoy hats or look good in hats. My grandmother has a big social event coming up with the Red Hat Society and she asked me to make her something that she could wear that would be an alternative to a hat. What would work instead of a hat? A headband, of course!
To begin with I knew I need to find materials that were not only purple and red but things that had sparkle and bling. I started going through my Christmas floral picks and found some cute little purple and red pieces. Using wire cutters I trimmed some small pieces from the picks. Also, because it is summer I wanted to add some small little purple and red silk flowers. I also found some red boa that was perfect for a Red Hat Society Headband!
Next, to make the headband’s bow I began by placing the Hair Bow Tool & Ruler on top of the Mini Bowdabra. The Hair Bow Tool & Ruler allows me to measure my bows easily and exact. Then, I cut a piece of Bowdabra Bow Wire 18? long folded it in half and placed it into the Mini Bowdabra.
Gently I pulled the bow out of the Mini Bowdabra. I separated the two loose ends of the Bowdabra Bow Wire and brought them around to the back of the bow. To tie off the bow, pinch the Bowdabra Bow Wire securely against the bow. Twist the bow 4 to 6 times in a clockwise direction. Then fluff the bow.
Lastly, using the Bowdabra Bow Wire I attached the bow to the side of braided ribbon headband. I trimmed away the Bowdabra Bow Wire and used the remaining strands to also tie the headband to the boa so that it wouldn’t move around on the headband.
The Red Hat Society Headband is now ready to be worn! This headband is a great alternative to wearing a hat and it was made from items I already had around the house. I love when I can repurpose and reuse!
