“This is a really fun little project we are going to do. It’s a guest room door hanger. And I’m making this so that holiday guests will be able to put it on their door.
I’m going to start right here, and I’m going to punch a hole. And the reason that I’m doing it on top of a piece of cardboard and not cutting board, is that it will go all the way through. If you just try to do the cardboard on the cutting board, it won’t go all the way through. And I’m just going to make the hole a little bit bigger. Now, I’m going to just kind of cut the ends. I’ll use my other scissors because I don’t want to ruin my good ones. Then, I’ll and pick these up and toss them. So now I have my door hanger.
I want to make the cardboard look like wood. So, I have a piece paper towel, which is why I have the glove on my hand because I don’t want to get paint on it. When I make my bow I don’t want to get paint on it. First, I’m just going to wipe this down here, so it gives it kind of a wood look. Just a little bit more. I’m really glad that I have the glove on my finger. When I’m happy with the paint, I’m just going to take this and move all this out of my way, put it aside, and let it dry. I’m just going to take my gloves off, toss them aside, and move this out of the way. And now we are ready to make our bow.
The first thing, I’m going to do is take my silver bow wire and fold it in half. Then, I lay it down in the Bowdabra and tuck the ends underneath so they stay out of the way.
The door hanger can go on my guest’s door when they come for the holidays. When it is on the door, everyone will know that they are sleeping, and they don’t want anyone to disturb them. Especially if you have children, it lets everyone know that if grandma and grandpa are asleep in the room when the sign is on the door, they cannot go in and bother them.
Next, I’m going to take my tulle, and I’m just going to kind of scrunch my tulle into my mini Bowdabra. So now I’m just kind of folding it back and forth. I’ll use my wand one more time. And then, pull the ends through the loop, holding it down while it’s in the Bowdabra. Separate the ends, bring it around to the back and tie it off with a knot to secure.
Now because the cardboard is so porous, my cardboard sign is already dry. So the first thing I’m going to do is take my ribbon, which is going to be the door hanger. A really cool trick is to take the tape and wrap it around the ends of your ribbon. And that way you can easily feed it through. I’m going to feed the other piece through here, so you don’t have to deal with fraying or anything like that. And then what I’m going to do is I’m going to take a bead, and this is the other reason I put tape on the ends. It makes it kind of like the end of a shoelace, but you can easily do it with the tape. I only want one bead. So, I’m going to thread that through here, and I’m just going to pull that down here and tie a knot. And that’s the back.
And then now we have the door hanger here. So, then I’m going to take my little stickies, and I’m going to just pull off the back here and put the little heart right there. These are just little foam stickers that you can get at any craft store. It’s a great project for your kids to do for their guests. When hanging it tells everybody “I’m dreaming, and please don’t bother me.” So, that will go right there. And then now what I’m going to do is take my bow, and I’m just going to use the wire to tie it around the handle that’s going to go around the door. And I’m going to bring it around here, tie it off and knot it. Finally, I’m just going to clip this close in here, and here. And now I’m just going to clip the ends here. And you have an adorable little guest room door hanger. It’s also perfect for a little girl’s room.
After you make your guest room door hanger, be sure to decorate your gifts this year with gorgeous Bowdabra bows. The bows will be a gift in itself and believe me the recipients will ooh and aah over those bows!
